Hitster is an interactive music game in which players test their music knowledge by placing songs in the correct chronological order. Using a QR code, you scan a song via Spotify, after which you have to determine which year the song comes from.
Hitster is especially popular during parties and get-togethers, because it is quick to explain and guarantees recognition, sing-alongs, and lots of laughter.
🎯 Objective of the game
The goal is to be the first to place 10 songs in the correct chronological order in your personal music timeline. Did you get the order right? Then you win the game!

Maximum: officially 10 players
With larger groups, you can also play in teams.
Type of game
🍀 Luck: 🔴🔴🔴⚪⚪ Sometimes you happen to know a number or the year, sometimes you don't. That's why luck plays a role.
💣 Risk: 🔴🔴⚪⚪⚪ The risk lies mainly in placing a number in your timeline; if it's wrong, you don't get a card.
🧠 Tactics: 🔴🔴⚪⚪⚪ Strategy plays a minor role; the game is mainly about music knowledge and estimating years.
📖 Rules of the game (summary)
PREPARATION
1. Shuffle all cards and place them face down on the table.
2. Choose a player who can scan the QR codes with a smartphone.
3. Each player starts with no cards in their timeline.
GAME PLAY
Players take turns clockwise.
A PLAYER'S TURN
1. Draw the top card from the pile.
2. Another player scans the QR code to play the song.
3. The active player tries to determine the year the song was released.
4. Place the card in the correct place in your timeline (e.g., before, after, or between other cards).
CHECK
Turn the card over to check the year.
* Correct: The card remains in your timeline.
* Incorrect: The card is removed from the game.
HITSTER TOKENS
Hitster tokens allow you to take on extra challenges, such as: – guessing the exact year – naming the artist – naming the song title. If you get it right, you can earn extra cards.
END OF THE GAME
The game ends when one player has 10 cards correctly placed in their timeline. That player wins the game.
